The best historic sites in Puerto Rico
Ordered by the History profile · 20 sights
Puerto Rico's history runs from the Taíno ball courts of Tibes and Caguana to the Spanish fortifications of San Juan, the coffee and sugar haciendas and the museums that tell the story of the island. This ranking puts first the places where you learn the most: significance and learning weigh the most, with peace and quiet as a bonus.
Many sites are run by the National Park Service, the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña or the municipalities, with their own opening days. Guided tours, where offered, are the best way to understand what you are looking at.
