Things to do on the east coast of Puerto Rico: El Yunque and Fajardo

The east concentrates many of Puerto Rico's classics in a small area. El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the United States national forest system, has waterfalls, river pools, peaks and observation towers less than an hour from San Juan.

At its foot are the beach and kiosks of Luquillo, and further east Fajardo, with Las Cabezas de San Juan, the bioluminescent Laguna Grande and the boats to the cays and to Vieques and Culebra. El Yunque's recreation area needs a reservation for the main road: check before you go.
