Things to do on the north coast of Puerto Rico

The north coast faces the open Atlantic: wilder sea, cliffs and beaches protected by reefs and rocks that form natural pools, such as Mar Chiquita or La Poza del Obispo. Inland lies karst country, with limestone hills, sinkholes and some of the most spectacular caves in the Caribbean.

From November to March the winter swell can make the sea dangerous: swim only where it is sheltered and keep away from the rocks when the waves are big. The caves and lakes of the interior are a good alternative on rough days.
