Things to do on the south coast of Puerto Rico: Ponce and Guánica
The south is drier, sunnier and calmer than the north, with the Caribbean on one side and the mountains on the other. Ponce, the great city of the south, has some of its best museums and heritage: the Museo de Arte, the Parque de Bombas, Castillo Serrallés and the Taíno ceremonial centre of Tibes.
To the west, the dry forest of Guánica, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, reaches beaches and cays such as Caña Gorda and Gilligan’s Island. Off Ponce, the island of Caja de Muertos is a day trip by boat.
