Things to do in Vieques: beaches, bioluminescent bay and more
Vieques is a quiet island with some of Puerto Rico's best beaches. Much of it was used by the US Navy until 2003 and is now a national wildlife refuge, so many beaches have no buildings at all: Sun Bay, Caracas (Red Beach), La Chiva (Blue Beach) and Media Luna are among the highlights.
At night, Mosquito Bay is one of the brightest bioluminescent bays in the world. Horses roam freely around Esperanza and Isabel Segunda. A car or bike is needed to get around, and the refuge beaches close at sunset.
