The best road trips in Puerto Rico
Ordered by every profile at once · 10 road trips
Driving is the best way to see Puerto Rico beyond San Juan. These routes follow the island's most scenic roads, from the Ruta Panorámica across the Cordillera Central to the coasts of the southwest and the east, split into stages with stops worth making and driving notes.
This ranking weighs every road trip profile at once: scenery, stops, coast, easy driving, the pleasure of the drive and local food. Mountain roads are narrow and winding and take longer than the map suggests; avoid driving them at night or after heavy rain. Every route can be opened in Google Maps or downloaded as a GPX file.
